American Avocet, Black-necked Stilt, Willet
The photo shows about a fourth of the birds in this grouping, at rest together in the shallows of the Boddeker Road tide pool. Again and again we see shore birds gathering in diversified groups. If the water were much deeper that Willet would have to excuse himself. The tip here for birding is when you see a large grouping of a species, don’t assume every member of the group is the same. Your life bird may be lurking in there!
Herring Gull, Laughing Gull
The same morning, a youngster and a mature Herring Gull with a Laughing Gull in the back. In case you can’t tell, it was a very overcast day and I have pushed the living daylights into these images in post.
