So this group is one of the toughest ID challenges going in North America. Sibley flat out states that Willows and Alders are essentially identical and you have to sort them on their calls. Well, this guy wasn’t singing any tunes. I think the bill is too small for Acadian and it’s white throat eliminates the Yellow-bellied. So range-wise it’s got to be one of the three and my gut tells me Least. I have a Least on my life list and it’s one of those dodgy entries that I’d rather not talk about.
I also saw a female Painted Bunting, female Indigo Bunting, and the Brown Thrashers (same pair?) out there. No worthy photos to share, alas.
