I was thrown off the trail by those black bands on the wings, but it must be a Little Blue Heron just beginning to molt into adult plumage. The first I’ve seen one at the east end of Galveston.
The Willet was calling it’s little head off as it flew by. Ah-WEE-will-LET!
We see the Black-bellies here frequently. The back lighting doesn’t help. There were some Mottled Ducks out there today as well.
